Does It Really Matter? Breast Surgery, Modification, and Lactation

  1. Discuss how breast surgery could impact maternal milk supply.

  2. Name at least 3 common breast modifications.

  3. Initiate non-judgmental breastfeeding client interviews in order to assess for breast surgery, injury, or modification.

  4. List at least two reasons why a person would have breast or body modifications. 

Drug Use in Pregnancy: Breastfeeding and the Neurobiology of Maternal/Infant Attachment

Objectives:

  1. Describe the biological impact of illicit substance use on the neuroendocrine system responsible for attachment.

  2. Analyze the impact of prenatal substance exposure on neonatal neurobehavior and the implications for the neonate’s ability to participate in a dyadic relationship with his or her mother.

  3. Discuss the role of breastfeeding in enhancing maternal/infant attachment.

  4. List three recommendations for monitoring breastfeeding in women with a history of substance use.
